Dogs Kill Owner

A Slovenian who saved his three dogs from being put down for attacking humans was himself mauled to death by them, the Globe and Mail reported Wednesday, quoting police.

"Three dogs bit their 52-year-old owner to death in Ljubljana," police spokeswoman Maja Adlesic said.

Four years ago, the three bullmastiffs attacked and seriously injured a passer-by outside their owner's house. They spent years in custody pending legal hearings, but when one of them attacked a dog handler, authorities ordered them to be put down.

Their owner, a doctor, succeeded last June in his legal appeals to get the dogs back, sparking a national controversy. After his death, an opposition party said the agriculture minister should resign for failing to stop the dogs being released.

The dogs attacked the man in his garden Tuesday, killing him before the police arrived. All three dogs were put down following the attack.

목숨 구해준 개에 주인 물려 사망

개들이 사살될 위기에서 자신들을 구해준 주인을 물어 죽음에 이르게 한 충격적인 사건이 슬로베니아 공화국에서 일어났다.

수도 루블리아나에 사는 52살의 이 남성은 지난 2일 (현지시간) 집 마당에서 기르던 불마스티프 종견 3마리에게 공격을 받아 현장에서 목숨을 잃었다.

경찰 대변인 마자 아들레시크는 "세 마리의 개들이 이 남자를 물어죽였다"고 확인했다.

4년 전 이 개들은 행인을 공격해 중상에 이르게 한 바 있다. 당시 법원은 문제의 개들을 사살하라고 명령했으나 주인은 이에 불복해 항소했고 개들은 주인을 떠나 보호소에서 구금돼 죽을 위기를 넘겼다.

구금됐을 당시에도 문제의 개 중 한 마리가 사육사를 물어 부상을 입혀 다시 한번 사살 위기를 맞았으나, 주인의 거듭된 청원으로 개들은 목숨을 부지한 뒤 주인 곁으로 돌아왔지만 이 문제로 국가적인 논란이 일어났다. 이 사건 이후 야당은 책임을 물어 농림장관의 사임을 요구했다.

문제의 개들은 현장에서 사살됐다.
