Rep. Choung Named GNP Secretary General

Choung Byoung-gug, a three-term lawmaker of the Grand National Party (GNP), was named the new secretary general of the ruling party, Thursday. He replaces Rep. Chang Kwang-keun, who offered to resign Tuesday.

Choung, 52, who was elected from the Yangpyeong district in Gyeonggi Province, served as a key member of President Lee Myung-bak's election campaign team in 2007.

In a reshuffle of party officials, Rep. Chung Mee-kyung was named spokeswoman to replace Rep. Cho Yoon-sun.
