Cigarette Explosion

A cigarette has exploded during smoking in Indonesia, shocking people who are smokers at home and abroad.

The AFP has reported that security guard Andi Susanto, 31, has lost six teeth in an explosion of cigarette in his mouth.

Now, he is currently receiving dental treatment, the news agency said, adding that it has not led to his death.

Susanto, who has smoked for about 20 years, was riding a motorcycle when the cigarette exploded in his mouth on Thursday, a local newspaper reported.

During the explosion, he smoke "Clas Mild" cigarette manufactured by PT Nojorono Tobacco Indonesia but didn't notice anything strange about its odor, color or taste, according to reports.

The cigarette manufacturer paid 5 million rupees (about 610,000 won) to the victim as compensation and Susanto reportedly agreed on the compensation with the cigarette maker without legal action.

This is the first time that a cigarette has exploded in Indonesia. No cause of the explosion has yet to be found.

He said he would quit smoking after the incident. Indonesia is one of the most profitable tobacco markets in the world, and more than 60 percent of Indonesian men smoke.

피우던 담배 폭발해 이빨 6개 나가

인도네시아에서 피우던 담배가 폭발하는 충격적인 사고가 발생했다.

영국 BBC 방송에 따르면 경비원으로 일하는 안디 수잔토 (31)는 최근 피우던 담배가 입에서 폭발해 치아 6개를 잃는 부상을 당했다.

현재 이 남성은 치과 치료를 받는 중이며 생명에는 지장이 없는 상태다.

20년 간 담배를 피워왔다는 수잔토는 "오토바이 운전을 하면서 담배를 피우던 중 폭발이 일어났다"면서 "평소 평범하게 흡연하며 이런 사고는 처음이었다"고 진술했다.

당시 폭발을 일으킨 담배는 'PT 노조로노 노바코 인도네시아' (Nojorono Tobacco Indonesia)가 생산한 '클라스 마일드'였으며 향이나 색깔 그리고 맛에서 아무런 이상한 징후를 알아채지 못했던 것으로 전해졌다.

제조업체는 피해 남성에게 500만 루피아 (한화 61만원)을 치료비로 보상했으며 수잔토 역시 법적인 절차 없이 원만히 동의한 것으로 알려졌다.

인도네시아에서 담배가 폭발한 사건은 이번이 처음이다. 폭발 원인은 아직 규명되지 않았다.

그는 사건 후 담배를 끊겠다고 말했다. 인도네시아는 남성 중 60%가 흡연을 할 정도로 매우 큰 담배 시장을 형성하고 있다.
