The prosecution urged the National Assembly to legislate a special law on voice phishing as soon as possible.
The Supreme Prosecutors' Office requested immediate legislation of the voice phishing bill Sunday, which enables victims of fraud to get back what they lost without lawsuits.
Proposed by Rep. Kim Young-tae of the Grand National Party, the bill was presented to the National Policy Committee of the National Assembly last year. The bill stipulates victims can demand to freeze the account to which they sent money and the Financial Supervisory Service will terminate the receivables of the account. The bank can refund the amount swindled.
Currently, victims have to file a suit to retrieve their money, but only five cases have gone to trials in two years.
