Topless Women

A New Zealand woman in her 30s has claimed that it is about time women felt comfortable enough with their bodies to go topless on public beaches.

Shannon Claire said that she has launched a campaign in Internet site Facebook to encourage women to bare their breasts.

"Male toplessness being okay but female toplessness not is a double standard," Ms. Claire said.

She says it's time to follow European beaches into the light.

The 31-year-old has been sunbathing topless since she was 14 years old, according to a New Zealand broadcasting station.

She says she is totally comfortable with her body, but this summer, Ms. Claire has been copping flak from others who are not.

Instead of covering up, she has decided to take a stand, by starting a campaign for women to join her topless revolution, the TV said.

But Family First New Zealand says there is no place for topless sunbathing on public beaches, and that it should be banned.

섀넌 클레어라는 여성은 인터넷 사이트 페이스북을 통해 여성들에게 가슴노출을 권장하는 캠페인을 시작했다고 밝혔다.

클레어는 "남자는 가슴을 드러내도 되고 여자는 안 된다는 건 이중잣대"라고 꼬집었다.

그녀는 유럽 해안의 광경을 양성화할 때라고 말하고 있다.

뉴질랜드의 한 방송국에 따르면 31세의 이 여성은 14살 때부터 가슴을 드러내놓고 일광욕을 해 왔다.

클레어는 해수욕장에서 가슴을 드러내놓으면 마음이 정말로 편안한데 올 여름에는 가슴을 드러내놓고 있다가 일부 사람들로부터 비난받았다고 말했다.

그녀는 가슴을 가리는 대신 여성들이 가슴 노출 혁명에 동참하도록 하는 운동을 시작함으로써 이 같은 자신의 입장을 확실히 했다.

그러나 뉴질랜드 사회단체인 '패밀리 퍼스트 뉴질랜드'는 여러 사람이 함께 즐기는 해수욕장에서 여성들이 가슴을 가리지 않고 일광욕을 즐긴다는 건 말이 안 된다며 앞으로는 이 같은 일을 완전히 금지해야 한다고 반박했다.
