A male sophomore at a private university has been accused of sexually harassing new students who are going to attend the school from March.
The students met through an unofficial online community of successful candidates at Yonsei University and had a welcoming gathering.
The "perpetrator" allegedly groped and forced kisses on female students after drinking. He would be a sophomore at Yonsei University in March.
A female victim went public over the sexual harassment in the online community and some 20 other students wrote that they had been sexually abused as well.
Park posted a written apology on the Web site Sunday. He said he deeply regretted what he had done and would take a two year break from school as a sign of remorse.
However, other students requested proper countermeasures from the school - most wanted stronger punitive action from the school or the students' association.
"It is a habitual crime as he continuously harassed minors for about a month. The university should expel him," said a student nicknamed Bidok at Seiyon.net, a student community of Yonsei University. "Taking one or two year absence from school is a temporary escape, not a proper expression of regret."
A representative of "Speak-Out," the female students' association of the university, said the victims don't want the story to be published as it can hurt them both personally and in public.
"The victims are preparing a variety of measures against the student but do not want the issue to become known," she said.
The female students' association exercises regulations, which allows the assailant to make apologies in public with the prior consent of victims, go through sexual harassment education and participate in community service.
