Jockeys in Brawl During Race

Two jockeys got into a fistfight at Philadelphia Park while riding in the fifth race, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer on Jan. 8.

Eriluis Vaz was disqualified after punching Mi Helena's jockey, Ademar Santos, in the face as their horses rode along the backstretch.

A replay showed that after Vaz threw his punch, Santos appeared to punch Vaz right back. Then Vaz nailed Santos with his whip.

Santos said Vaz had veered toward him three times before the blows began.

Santos told his agent Carson Phelps that he got hit in the face and that he has got to do something.

Lou Albertrani, the agent for Vaz, said he couldn't comment because he hadn't yet seen the race and hadn't talked to Vaz.

It wasn't clear what caused the fight to begin. The horses were in close proximity, but luckily hadn't collided, the horse's trainer said.

미국의 필라델피아 인콰이어러지는 5경주 때 경마 경기를 하는 도중 2명의 기수들이 주먹다짐을 벌였다고 보도했다.

말들이 백스트레치 쪽으로 달리는 도중 에릴루이스 바즈가 경쟁 상대인 미 헬레나의 기수 아데마르 산토스의 얼굴에 주먹을 날렸으며 이로 인해 바즈는 실격됐다.

이 장면을 재생해본 결과 바즈가 주먹을 날렸고, 가격을 당한 기수가 바즈에게 반격을 가한 것으로 나타났다. 바즈는 채찍으로 산토스를 가격했다.

산토스는 바즈가 싸움이 시작되기 전 자신을 향해 3번이나 방향 전환을 했다고 주장했다.

산토스는 대리인 칼슨 펠프스에게 자신은 얼굴을 맞았고 이 일에 대해서 조치가 취해져야 한다고 말했다.

한편 바즈의 대리인 로우 엘버트래니는 아직 경기를 보지 못했고 바즈와 얘기를 나누지 못했기 때문에 아무 말도 할 수가 없다고 밝혔다.

무엇이 싸움을 시작하게 만들었는지는 알 수 없다. 싸움 당시 말들은 가까이 근접해 있었으나 다행히 부딪치진 않았다고 말 조련사는 밝혔다.
