Extra Charge for Obese Passengers

Obese people who are unable to squeeze into a single seat will have to pay nearly double to fly with Air France-KLM in future, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Extra-large people will have to pay 75 percent of the cost of a second seat on top of the full price for the first. This full price excludes tax and surcharges.

The average plane seat is 43cm wide and 44cm for long-haul flights.

Spokeswoman Monique Matze said the decision was made for safety reasons.

For those who cannot fit into a single seat are fastened by slotting the belt tip of one seat into the plug of the next, stretching over both seats.

By paying for both seats, they will get two seats available next to each other.

They will get their money back if flights are not fully booked.

The new measure will apply for people who book tickets from Feb. 1 for all flights from April 1 this year.

유럽 항공사인 에어프랑스와 KLM이 한 좌석에 앉지 못할 정도로 살이 찐 승객은 의무적으로 추가 좌석을 구입해야 할 것이라고 호주의 시드니 모닝 헤럴드가 보도했다.

뚱뚱한 승객들은 두 번째 좌석 정상 항공료의 75%를 내야 한다. 여기서 말하는 정상 항공료는 세금과 추가비용을 제외한 가격이다.

에어프랑스 국제선 좌석의 평균 크기는 가로43cm, 세로 44cm다.

모니크 마츠 대변인은 이 같은 조치는 안전을 위한 것이라고 말했다.

한 좌석에 앉지 못하는 승객들은 붙어있는 두 개 좌석을 배정받은 다음 한쪽 안전벨트를 뽑아 옆 좌석까지 연장해 착용하게 된다.

두 좌석을 구입하면 바로 옆 좌석과 연결해 앉을 수 있다.

만약 비행기 좌석이 매진되지 않을 경우, 추가 탑승료를 환불받을 수 있다.

이 방침은 2월 1일 예약을 시작으로, 4월 1일 출발 분부터 한 좌석에 앉지 못할 정도로 살이 찐 승객에게 적용된다.
