Chance for Perfect Partner

An economist has now proved finding that special someone comes down to a mathematical equation.

According to Daily Mail Online, university math genius Peter Backus (30) has discovered the science behind singledom, calculating that our chances of finding love are just one in 285,000.

Backus is a tutor at the University of Warwick and he is the writer of the thesis, ``Why I Don't Have A Girlfriend.'' He spent three years without a partner.

His finding uses a famous formula called The Drake Equation (N = R* x Fp x Ne x Fi x Fc x L), which was first used to estimate the existence of extra-terrestrial life.

The mind-numbing equation takes into account the number of single women aged 24 to 34 living in his home city of London. This means that Backus's chances of meeting his dream partner on a night out are slim.

Therefore, on a given night out in London there is a 0.0000034 percent chance of meeting one of these special people which equals a one in 285,000 chance.

Backus found that out of the 30million women in the U.K., only 26 would be suitable girlfriends for him.

He said, "The research may sound depressing to people looking for love, but the good news for singles is, it's probably not your fault!"

따라서 완벽한 짝을 만날 가능성은 방정식으로 계산해보면 0.0000034% 다시 말해 28만5,000분의 1에 불과하다는 것이다.

배커스가 계산해본 결과 영국 여성 3,000만 명 가운데 자신과 어울릴 만한 여자친구는 26명에 불과했다.

그는 "사랑을 갈구하는 이들에게 절망적인 소리로 들리겠지만, 싱글들에게는 꿈에 그리는 이성을 아직 못 만난 것이 자신의 탓은 아니라는 위안이 될 수 있을 것"이라고 말했다.
