South Korean Enters NK via Chinese Border

Listen

A man, presumed to be a South Korean, has crossed the a frozen river in the China-North Korea border to enter North Korea on Friday, Yonhap reported on Saturday citing unnamed sources in China.

The report didn't say the identity of this person. But based on the fact that he spoke with a native South Korean accent, he is believed to be a South Korean citizen, it said.

The man took a cab at the Yanji International Airport, a border town. He stopped the taxi at a point about 2 kilometers away from Tumen city in the Korean autonomous prefecture of Yanbian, northeast China, Yonhap said citing "well-informed" sources on the matter.

The taxi driver apparently tried to dissuade him, warning him that he could be shot by the North Korean border guards, to no avail, it said.

Upon crossing the border, he was confronted by several North Korean guards who took him away after talking with him, it said, citing sources.
