Weather Agency to Upgrade Forecast System

Listen

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) will introduce a third generation "Super Computer" for more sophisticated weather forecasts and analysis.

The state-run agency said Friday the newest edition will be 39 times faster in calculation and 24 times larger in data storage than the second-generation one.

The computer will be installed at the national metrological super computer center in Ochang, north Chungcheong Province this year.

The KMA has been under fire for inaccurate reports about the unprecedented snowfall that recently hit Korea.
