Clinton’s Daughter Engaged to Banker

The only daughter of former U.S. President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has become engaged to her longtime boyfriend, The Associated Press reported Monday.

Chelsea, 29, and Marc Mezvinsky,31, an investment banker, disclosed their engagement in their e-mail sent to their friends along with greetings for the Thanksgiving Day, Friday, the news agency said.

Matt McKenna, a spokesman of former President Bill, said that they were engaged in a ceremony in New York, Nov. 26, claiming media reports that they married last summer are not true. He added that the couple would wed next summer.

Mac is a son of former Pennsylvania Rep. Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky and former Iowa Rep. Ed Mezvinsky, longtime friends of the Clintons. Ed Mezvinsky was released from federal prison last year after serving a nearly five-year sentence for wire and bank fraud.

Chelsea and Marc became friends as teenagers in Washington and both attended Stanford University. They now live in New York, where Mezvinsky works at G3 Capital, a Manhattan hedge fund, and Clinton is pursuing a graduate degree at Columbia University's School of Public Health.

힐러리 클린턴 미국 국무장관과 빌 클린턴 전 미국 대통령 부부의 외동딸이 오랜 남자친구와 약혼식을 올렸다고 AP통신이 월요일 보도했다.

첼시 (29)와 투자은행원인 마크 (31)는 27일 친구와 지인들에게 보낸 메일에서 추수감사절을 축하하는 인사와 함께 자신들의 약혼 사실을 공개했다고 이 통신은 말했다.

클린턴 전 대통령의 대변인인 매트 매케너는 추수감사절인 26일 이 커플이 뉴욕에서 약혼한 것으로 안다면서 지난 여름 이 두 사람이 결혼했다는 언론보도는 부정확한 것이라고 말했다. 그는 이 커플이 내년 여름 결혼식을 올릴 것이라고 밝혔다.

첼시의 약혼자인 마크는 클린턴 가족의 오랜 친구인 민주당 소속으로 아이오와 출신 연방하원의원을 지낸 에드 메즈빈스키와 펜실베이니아를 지역구로 연방하원의원을 역임한 마저리 메즈빈스키 부부의 아들이다. 에드는 전자통신 및 은행 사기로 거의 5년 형을 살다 지난해 연방 교도소에서 풀려났다.

첼시와 마크는 10대 때부터 워싱턴에서 알고 지내던 사이로 둘다 스탠퍼드대를 졸업했다. 이들은 마크가 다니는 맨해턴 헷지펀드인 G3 캐피탈이 있는 뉴욕시에 살고 있으며 첼시아는 컬럼비아대 공중보건대학원 석사 코스를 밟고 있다.
