Golfers are now 60 percent liable for injuries they sustain when falling out of golf carts, a high court ruled Wednesday, a ruling that is interpreted to place a greater emphasis on individuals for their own safety.
The Seoul High Court, however, ordered a golf course owner to pay 140 million won to a golfer identified as Lee, who fell off a moving golf cart and sustained injuries to his head in 2007. The amount only accounts for 40 percent of what the plaintiff demanded for treatment and compensation.
Judge Ji Dae-woon said, "Lee was on a cart going along a bumpy and curved road, which required him to pay extra attention. He didn't heed an instruction posted inside the cart, telling users to hold on to the strap with both hands."
