Korea Elected Member of IAEAs Board of Governors

South Korea has been elected as a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)'s governing body, a two-year post.
Shim Yoon-joe, Korean ambassador to Austria, will represent Korea at the organization. So far, Korea has been elected 13 times to the same post.
Ten other countries were also elected members of the 35-nation IAEA Board of Governors, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said Friday.
They are Mongolia, Peru, Venezuela, Denmark, the Netherlands, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Pakistan, Kenya and Cameroon.
Of the 35 member states, 13 are permanent members and the remaining 22 are rotating seats that are chosen based on consensus.
The international agency aims to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and to prevent the usage for military purposes.
It was founded in 1957, and Korea joined it the same year.
