Call 120 for Roadkill Clearance

Listen

Seoul City is to operate a dedicated roadkill response team 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Those who want to report animals killed on the road can call 120 or 128.

The team will be dispatched promptly after receiving a report and then dispose of the roadkill.

The carcasses will be stored in plastic bags before being incinerated, city officials said.

"Roadkill often pose hazards to motorists," a city official said. "The animal carcasses are left behind, making citizens uncomfortable. That is why we are activating this team to promptly remove killed animal out of sight and safely dispose of them."

At the same time, City Hall plans to encourage pet owners to use pet clinics to properly dispose of their dead pets.

The city is consulting with the environment ministry in the hope of categorizing the animal carcasses as "medical" refuse so that extra care is taken in their disposal.
