Korean Air, the nation's largest carrier, will raise the fare of its Presitige Class (business class) for domestic routes by 15.6 percent on average starting Sept. 15.

The airline will also discontinue its 25-percent discount for children under 13 when they travel in business class.

The carrier claims that the Prestige Class seats occupy around twice the area of economy class seats and that passengers have many benefits including additional baggage allowance, use exclusive check-in counters and receive extra bonus mileage. Ticket prices, however, have not properly reflected increased costs.

"Instead, we will offer a more luxurious, distinctive service to the Prestige Class passengers so they can travel in a more convenient and comfortable way," an airline official said.
