The Korean Global Foundation (KGF) will hold its annual conference in Seoul from Aug. 17 to 20 to discuss the future of Korea and the world.

Under the theme “The New Era of Unified Korea and World,” the 10th annual conference is expected to attract more than 200 international and domestic scholars, diplomats and professionals.

Speakers and participants include Greb A. Ivashentsov, Russian Ambassador to Seoul; Uwe Wissenbach, EU Commission’s deputy head of mission; Lee Ki-taek, vice president of the National Unification Advisory Council; Vitaly Ignatenko, director general of Itar-Tass and former vice premier of the Soviet Union; Scott Snyder, director of the Center for U.S.-Korea Policy of Asia Foundation; Hideo Kobayashi, Waseda University professor; Ren Xiao, associate dean of the Institute of International Studies of Fudan University; and Samuel Heilman, distinguished professor at the City University of New York.

One major topic to be discussed is the change needed to put the Korean peninsula on the path to peace, integration and prosperity.

The 2009 forum, marking its 10th anniversary, will take place at the Seoul Kyoyuk Munhwa Hoekwan. Participants will discuss ways for the Korean people to cope with the rapidly changing global geopolitical environment.

They will focus on finding new strategies and paradigms while suggesting new values and models for the Korean peninsula, which is showing a widening ideological rift.

The forum will also shed light on the obstacles that the Korean Peninsula must overcome and strive to provide solutions.
