Former President Kim Dae-jung was transferred to an intensive care unit Wednesday at a Seoul hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia.
"After a medical checkup, he was diagnosed with pneumonia and transferred to an intensive care unit at Severance Hospital," Yonhap News reported, quoting one of Kim's aides.
"He was sent to the intensive care unit just to prevent other complications. He is not in critical condition."
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate was clearly conscious and breathing well without the aid of a respirator, Yonhap said.
Kim, who served as president between 1998 and 2003, was taken to Yonsei University's Severance Hospital Monday to have a medical checkup after suffering from cold symptoms and a fever.
Kim was hospitalized after showing similar symptoms in 2005.
