Professor Can Criticize His School

A professor should not be punished for criticizing his workplace based on facts, a court said Saturday.
The Seoul Administrative Court ordered Dongguk University to withdraw its decision to suspend a professor for two months for his criticism of the school over allegations of irregularities.
The professor, whose name was not disclosed, issued a statement in 2007 calling for the president and board of directors to resign for hiring the scandal-ridden Shin Jeong-ah, who had fabricated her university diploma from Yale, without verification.
Shin was at the center of a ``sugar daddy'' scandal for her love affair with then Presidential secretary Byeon Yang-kyoon.
The court said, ``What the professor did was based on facts, and his announcement was for the betterment of the workplace.''
