Shin Jeong-ah, 37, whose conviction for fabricating her educational credentials is to be reviewed, was released on bail about 18 months after she was put behind bars, Friday.

Shin and her ``sugar daddy'' Byeon Yang-kyoon, 58, a former presidential secretary, were convicted of influence peddling and fabrication of documents, respectively. Shin was sentenced to one year and six months in prison.

A Seoul court said that there was no particular reason to reject the grant of bail to her, and she will face a fresh trial on April 23 after the country's top court ordered a lower court to review the case.

Bombarded with questions from reporters, Shin, wearing a cap and with her head down, did not make any comment and got in a Lexus sedan and was driven away.

In 2005, Byeon pressured Dongguk University officials to hire Shin, who had fabricated her academic credentials to make it appear she had obtained a Ph.D. at Yale University.
