Hundreds of fake food tickets were found at cafeterias of Seoul National University (SNU) Thursday.

According to the university, it has found some 700 counterfeit meal tickets in most eateries under direct management of SNU Coop.

The food coupons used in SNU cafeterias are either green, worth 2,500 won, or yellow, 3,000 won, and are made from acrylic. ``The forged coupons look similar to the original ones, but have differences in size, pattern and color if looked at them closely,'' an SNU Coop official said.

School authorities posted signs warning the distribution of fake meal tickets and urged students to buy coupons only at the certified offices. The coop temporarily stopped using the plastic tickets and offered exchange for paper tickets to discontinue the circulation of fake ones.

Gwanak Police Station booked a man, identified only as Choi, 28, on charges of circulating the fake tickets. Choi has been studying for the civil service examination at the library of SNU. The police caught him during a track down of the purchase route of the fake coupons.

However, he denied the allegation, saying he bought the coupons from a man at the cafeteria for cheaper prices and resold the remaining coupons.
