A man in his 40s committed suicide after stabbing his wife and her mother, police said Thursday. The two victims are in a critical condition, it added.
Yangcheon Police Station said the man, identified only as Park, jumped off a 15 floor apartment building in Mok-dong, northwestern Seoul, after stabbing his wife and 65-year-old mother-in-law.
According to officers, the incident took place shortly after his wife, who had left the home for days for fear of repeated domestic violence, returned home escorted by her senile mother.
``They frequently quarreled over financial troubles. He assaulted his wife whenever she rejected his requests for borrowing money from her mother,'' a police officer quoted a family member as saying.
Police said their only son is studying overseas.
