Kwon Tae-shin, 60, new chief of the Office of the Prime Minister, is a career economic bureaucrat.
He served in senior posts at the finance ministry and financial and budgetary institutions. They include chief of the finance ministry's budget, securities, global finance bureaus, presidential secretary for industry and communications affairs and ambassador to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Kwon also served as an economic policy coordinator at Cheong Wa Dae under the Roh Tae-woo, Kim Young-sam, Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun administrations.
He is considered as having played a key role in upgrading the nation's international credit in 2002 when he served as chief of the finance ministry's international finance bureau.
Kwon was named as deputy chief of the Office of the Prime Minister last October in recognition of his extensive knowledge of the global economy and good personal relations.
