The secret behind a man who bagged 4.2 billion won ($3.2 million) with two first-prize Lotto tickets has been revealed as ``a marking mistake.''
After marking a combination of six ``right'' numbers (5, 8, 22, 28, 33, 42) on one ticket, he intended to mark ``43'' for the last number on the second ticket. But at the last moment, he forgot to change the number to 43 and instead marked 42 again, resulting in a double jackpot, according to Nanum Lotto and Nonghyup Bank officials.
If he had marked 43 on the second ticket, he would have won the third prize of 1.5 million won. But because of the lucky mistake, he took home double the amount of the first prize money (2.1 billion won) early last week.
The man did not have any particular dream before buying the lottery tickets and was not a regular Lotto buyer. He bought five 5,000-won tickets this time.
The win represents the first time ever that a person has won the first prize twice at the same time.
