64-Year-Old Kills 93-Year-Old Father

Listen

A 64-year-old man was apprehended on suspicion of strangling his 93-year-old father to death in an apparent arguing over who would take care of the older man, Saturday.

Police in Pohang, South Gyeongsang Province, said they were referring the case to the prosecution.

On Saturday evening, the son, identified as Kim, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer three months ago, told his father that he might not be able to take care of him as he needed to be hospitalized for cancer treatment. His father objected as no one else could take care of him. Upon the remark, the son strangled his father in anger, according to the police.

After murdering his father, Kim called his 38 year-old son to come to the scene, the police said. Kim was attempting to take his own life when his son arrived and was taken to a hospital, they added.

Officers said Kim's son found a note his father had left, which read, ``I'm sorry. Please hold annual rituals to worship your grandfather and grandmother.''

Kim was said to have lived with his father since divorcing his wife 28 years ago.
