A cold spell combined with a gust of wind is expected to grip the whole country today, driving temperatures down to as low as minus 9 degree Celsius, the Korea Meteorological Administration said Sunday.
The biting cold is likely to continue Tuesday with snow falling in part of Gangwon Province and the western part of Chungcheong Province and South Jeolla Province. The weather agency expects snowfall to be unlikely on Christmas Eve and Christmas.
``The mercury Monday is likely to dip as low as minus 9 degree Celsius in Seoul as a result of expanding freezing continental high pressure,'' the KMA said in a statement. ``Most of the peninsula, except for Jeju Island, will experience sub-zero temperatures as well.''
KMA forecasted the cold spell in Seoul to reach its peak Monday morning and continue until Tuesday. It will ease up toward the weekend, the agency said.
