Three ethnic South Koreans were reportedly killed and one went missing after a U.S. Marine fighter jet crashed in a residential neighborhood in San Diego, Yonhap News reported South Korean diplomats.
A presumed grand mother, a mother and a child, all unidentified, were killed and another child remained yet to be found when a malfunctioning F/A-18 fighter jet crashed in their house near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in University City, northern San Diego, according to U.S. media reports.
The South Korean consulate general in Los Angeles said they have sent an official to the site of the crash after having been notified by local officials that the two adults were of South Korean nationality. The deceased and missing children were presumed to be of U.S. citizenships.
"We have yet to confirm the identities of the victims but were informed that the two adults were of South Korean nationalities and two children were American citizens," an official at the consulate general was quoted as saying
The twin-engine aircraft apparently experienced engine trouble and was attempting to land the base around noon when it lost power completely, reports said. The pilot safely ejected from the jet before it crashed.
