Seoul Plaza Skating Rinks to Open Dec. 12

Next month, Seoul Plaza, in front of Seoul City Hall, will undergo a temporary facelift with the implementation of ice skating rinks for winter leisure, the city said Sunday.

The city will run two rinks, a 600 square-meter-one for children and a 1,500 square-meter-one for adults, from Dec. 12 to Feb. 15.

Dining and resting facilities as well as helmet and a skate rental kiosks will be available for more than 3,600 visitors per day.

The rink first opened in 2004 and quickly became the hottest winter spot among Seoulites. More than 246,000 visited it last year.

The facility will open between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and to 11 p.m. from Friday to Sunday. Admission costs 1,000 won per hour. Disabled people, those who receive government subsidies and those over 65 years old can enter free of charge.
