A group of 14 recently promoted brigadier generals arrived in Seoul Sunday for a four-day visit that includes a trip to the truce village of Panmunjeom in the Demilitarized Zone, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said Monday.
The generals, members of the Capstone Group, are scheduled to meet with JCS Chief Gen. Kim Tae-young Tuesday.
They will also visit the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command before leaving Wednesday for Mongolia as part of a four-nation trip that will also take them to Vietnam and Indonesia, the JCS said.
About 1,070 U.S. generals have visited South Korea under the familiarization program since it was introduced in Asia in 1985, it said.
The Koreas technically remain at war as the 1950-53 Korean War ended in a ceasefire, not a peace treaty.
