About 3,500 young star-hopefuls applied to work at state-run KBS, the company said Sunday.

In the first event of its kind in five years, 3,500 showed up for 20 vacancies seeking the opportunity to appear in dramas and other programs, marking a 175:1 competition ratio.

Applicants, aged from 17 to 28, were mostly drama school students with some acting experience here or overseas.

The station has trimmed the candidates down to 80. The final result will be announced around next week.
