Konkuk University will offer a management of technology (MOT) course from next March, becoming the first Korean university to offer such an inter-disciplinary course.

Its President, Oh Myung, said Thursday that technology management professor William Miller from Stanford University will be the dean and will open the ``Miller MOT School.’’

``It is very important nowadays to bring high technology products successfully to the marketplace. We need many talents bearing balanced knowledge in technology and management,’’ Oh said on the occasion of the second anniversary of his presidency Wednesday.

The university will recruit 30 students for the undergraduate course and the Miller MOT school will introduce three majors, including technology innovation management, technology innovation policy and venture technology management.

``Our university is not competitive in general MBA courses, so we will specialize in business studies associated with technology. MOT is nowadays one of the most popular interdisciplinary programs worldwide,’’ he added. Under the plan, the university will invite more foreign scholars in technology management and work with Stanford University and Stony Brook University for dual degree courses.

Oh said the university will also promote collaborative research in the robotics industry with overseas universities and institutes. Konkuk also plans to spearhead the export of Korea’s information technology, especially to South American countries. The school will provide 300 computers to Paraguay and Columbia and invest IT infrastructure in the countries in cooperation with the Korea Agency for Digital Opportunity & Promotion.
