Listen

No South Koreans are believed to be among the victims of a Spanish tourist jet that crashed upon

takeoff in Madrid, leaving at least 153 people dead, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said Thursday.

``No South Korean is believed to have been killed or wounded in the incident,'' Cho Yun-soo, deputy spokesman for the ministry, said. ``But we are continuing to check whether any South Korean was aboard the plane, since many South Koreans travel to Spain, particularly during the summer vacation season.''

A jetliner heading to the popular resort destination of Canary Islands crashed upon takeoff at a Madrid airport on Wednesday. The authorities said at least 153 people were killed, with 19 others confirmed alive.
