A recent poll shows migrants here believe Koreans need as much education for a multi-cultural society as they themselves need in terms of education for Korean language and culture.

The Korea Culture and Tourism Institute (KCTI) conducted the survey on 825 migrants. The result showed 55.8 percent saying that Koreans need to be educated about the realities of a multi-cultural society while only 8.4 percent thought it unnecessary.

``Koreans should make an effort to integrate migrant wives and children in multiracial families into Korean society,'' Kang Sung-hea, director of the Emergency Support Center for Migrant Women, said.

In the survey, migrants also proposed that the government offer programs to help them learn Korean language, culture and tradition most. But only 26.5 percent said they had joined a language program.

A KCTI researcher said the government needs to allocate more money to offer broadened language programs for foreigners.

A separate survey of 11 experts on migration showed that the government should make efforts to educate its people to see migrants as part of their society.

The government should help Koreans embrace cultural diversity, multi-cultural values and cultural intercourse, they said.
