Rep. Lim Doo-sung of the governing Grand National Party (GNP) Tuesday submitted to the National Assembly a revision to make it mandatory for cosmetic companies to include an expiration date on their products.

Lim said that when buying lotions and cosmetics, women should be able to check their validity as well as the fragrance and texture.

He claimed cosmetic firms have ignored consumers' right to know and choose.

Lim added some women have suffered from allergies and rashes since they are not fully informed of the expiration date of cosmetics which they apply to their skin at least once everyday.

The current law stipulates that only functional cosmetics containing retinol and vitamins, which are supposed to rejuvenate the skin, be labeled with expiration dates.
