Park Byeong-seug, a three-term legislator, was named chief policymaker of the main opposition Democratic Party, Tuesday.
Chung Sye-kyun, who was elected chairman of the party Sunday, also appointed four-term lawmaker Lee Mi-kyung as secretary general.
Lee is expected to help revamp the embattled party based on her reformative thinking, while Park is acknowledged for his efforts in resolving bread-and-butter issues, DP spokeswoman Cha Young said.
Two-term lawmaker Choi Jae-sung and Kim Yoo-jung, who was first elected to the National Assembly in the April 9 elections, were named DP spokespersons.
Two-term Assemblyman Kang Gi-jung became chief secretary to the party chairman.
Chung has still to decide on two members of the party's decision-making Supreme Council.
Five members of the council were picked at the party's national convention Sunday. They are two-term legislator Kim Jin-pyo, 61; three-term lawmaker Song Young-gil, 45; Ahn Hee-jung, 43, a close confidant of former President Roh Moo-hyun; former lawmaker Kim Min-seok, 44; and two-term legislator Park Joo-sun, 59.
According to party sources, Chang Sang, former chairwoman of the DP, and Han Myeong-sook, former prime minister, are currently listed as viable candidates for the posts.
