Specialists who don't have teacher licenses will now be allowed to teach at schools for gifted students, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announced Monday in a revision bill.

The current Education Law allows only those holding teaching licenses to be regular teachers at schools. With the exceptional regulation, specialists in math and sciences without teaching certificates can educate gifted students, as can renowned artists without academic degrees.

So far, curricula of these schools are under the control of the superintendents at each education office in cities and provinces. But under the new rules, heads of the schools will have autonomy in choosing subjects.

In addition, they will invite more disabled students. ``Disabled students often have difficulties in showing their talents due to poor systematic support. We will help more disabled students study at gifted schools,'' said Lee Jin-gyu, a ministry official.
