Korea Optical Illusion Institute (KOII), a leading institute studying optical illusions and related phenomena, will hold the ``Face Optical Illusion Contest’’ June 13-30, the first of its kind in the country. The Korea Times is co-hosting the event.
Internet users can submit images or video files of optical illusions to the institute’s homepage (www.KOII.kr). They can send images they find on the Internet or their own work to the contest. Winners will be picked via a poll of Internet users.
The institute will award three round-trip tickets to Japan to those who register the largest number of video files and pictures in three categories.
It will award cell phones to the top 10 most popular images. Thirty participants will be given tickets to the ``Dogo Spa.’’
At the same time, ``The 1st Korea Optical Illusion Contest'' will be held, with the best works also being selected through an Internet poll.
``We’ve decided to hold the contest to publicize optical illusions to Internet users,’’ said Sohn Suk-dock, president of the institute. ``Studies on optical illusions are the basis for all design work.’’
Korea Times President-Publisher Park Moo-jong said that a lot of optical illusions require creativeness, imagination and concentration.
``I hope the contest will help raise the level of awareness of Korea’s younger generation on optical illusions to that of developed nations,’’ Park said.
