President Lee Myung-bak has set a three-point goal of selecting new ministers and secretaries from among non-Gyeongsang figures, people who did not graduate from Korea University and those whose assets do not exceed one billion won, Cheong Wa Dae sources said.

The guideline came out after mounting criticism that President Lee had been biased in choosing too many ministers and secretaries from his southeastern hometown, his alma mater Korea University and the ‘super-rich’ elite.

They said the Cabinet reshuffle would include natives from the southwestern Jeolla Province.

Lee said Wednesday he had a lot of mixed feelings watching Tuesday’s rallies. “I myself participated in the pro-democracy movement as a student in the early 1960s.”
