Law-School Disputes Go to Court

Six universities who failed to win a ticket to run a U.S.-style law school Friday filed a constitutional petition with the Constitutional Court.
In its filing, they claimed that giving law-school licenses to low-scored universities was unconstitutional.
The participating schools are Dongguk, Kookmin, Myongji, Chosun, Sun Moon and Youngsan universities.
Dongguk University said in the statement ``In the selection process, Dongguk was ranked 14th among candidates in Seoul and 19th nationwide. Due to the regional allocation, however, we failed to win the ticket and other provincial schools with lower scores were picked up instead.''
In February, the education ministry announced 25 candidates to run the first law schools ― 15 in the Seoul area and 10 in the provinces.
Those who failed to win a license for the program have filed a series of lawsuits and taken legal steps against the government's decision. The law schools will open next March.
