A district court issued Wednesday a warrant to arrest a key suspect after he admitted to kidnapping and murdering two children who went missing on Christmas Day in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province.
The 39-year-old man, identified by his surname Jung, said that he killed Lee Hye-jin, 11, and Woo Yae-seul, 8 and dumped their dismembered bodies in two different spots to cover up the crime.
The confession came during questioning over the issuance of an arrest warrant for Jung at the Suwon District Court, Gyeonggi Province.
``While driving, I tried to pat their heads with affection, but they resisted. So, I killed them,’’ a police officer quoted the suspect as saying in the court.
The two schoolgirls went missing together on Dec. 25, but it was only March 11 when police first found Lee’s dismembered body on a mountain in Suwon. On Tuesday, police found the dismembered body of Woo in a stream near the area in which Jung said he dumped the body.
Police said Wednesday that the state crime lab confirmed the body found in the stream was Woo’s after DNA identification, and that bloodstains found in the restroom of Jung’s house also matched Woo’s blood type.
Kim Byung-rok, an officer from Anyang Police Station, told reporters that police also found two saws in Jung’s house and secured DNA matching those of the two victims from them.
Another Body Found
In related news, the body of a female was found Wednesday in a lake in Suwon near the mountain where police found the body of Lee.
Police suspect the body might be related to a recent series of missing persons cases.
A 12-year-old boy first spotted the body floating in Lake Wangsong, Uiwang and reported to the police.
The body was naked with its hands tied together, and all ten fingers were cut off.
The lake is only 3 kilometer away from the mountain where Lee’s body was found.
``The dead female is around 30 years old. The degree of decay suggests that she was killed about one to three months ago,’’ a police officer said.
