Prof. Lee Sung-woo, 56, has been elected as the ninth president of Kookmin University in Seoul.
The board of directors of the school selected Lee as the new president in its general meeting Thursday.
He earned a bachelors degree in civil engineering at Seoul National University, and his masters and doctorate at the University of Southern California.
Lee began to teach at the university in 1987 and served as dean of the school's College of Engineering. Currently, he is chief director of the Computational Structural Engineering Institute of Korea.
