Korean Air said Monday it has ordered three additional super-jumbo A380 aircraft to its previous order of five.

The first five will be delivered in 2010 and 2011, while the latest three will be arriving in 2012 and 2013.

The A380 is the biggest jet currently operating, with more than 500 seats on two decks. It is a next-generation aircraft made lighter by the use of composite materials and uses new engines that burn 15 percent less fuel than current ones.

``The additional order reflects Korean Air's determination to accelerate its effort to become a high-quality global carrier. We'll provide services beyond passenger's expectations with the customer-oriented, environment-friendly aircraft,'' Korean Air Chairman and CEO Cho Yang-ho said.

The airline plans to operate the super-jumbo jets on the long-range routes to Los Angeles, New York or Paris starting 2010.
