An elderly woman was killed, apparently after being attacked in the neck and face by her own cow.

According to the police in Okcheon, North Chungcheong Province, the 73-year-old woman, only identified as Kang, was found seriously injured in her cowshed. Kang was taken to hospital but died five hours later.

She was apparently gored by the cow's horns, while feeding it. Police officials assume that the cow, extremely sensitive after getting birth to a calf four days before, turned violent to protect its calf.

A neighbor found Kang lying in front of the shed.

``I was passing by her house when I found her lying in the shed covered in blood,'' the neighbor said.

Police are investigating to determine the exact cause of death.
