President-elect Lee Myung-bak's transition team Friday unveiled the English names of new ministries to be created under the governing downsizing plan.
The merger of the Education and Human Resources Development Ministry and part of the Science and Technology Ministry would be named the "Ministry of Human Resources and Science."
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade which is set to absorb the Unification Ministry, would be renamed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Unification.
The transition team Wednesday announced plans to scrap five of 18 ministries and cut about 6,900 government positions under Lee's plan for a small and efficient government.
A new large organization to be created through the merger of the Commerce, Industry and Energy Ministry with parts of the Information and Communication and Science and Technology ministries would be called the Ministry of Knowledge-based Economy.
The Ministry of Public Administration and Security would be established as a result of a merger of the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs, the Civil Service Commission, the National Emergency Planning Commission and part of the Information and Communication Ministry's electronic government affairs.
A merger the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family would become the Ministry of Health, Welfare, Gender Equality and Family.
The new names of other ministries are as follows: The Ministry of Homeland and Maritime Affairs would be created after the Construction and Transportation Ministry takes over the Maritime Affairs-Fisheries Ministry's marine transportation and port policies and the Korea Forest Service.
