A Korean professor has been named as one of the ``Top 100 Scientists’’ by an international biographical publisher.

Kyung Hee University Thursday announced that Prof. Lim Sabina of the Korean Medicine Department at the school, has been selected as one of the outstanding scientists by the International Biographical Center (IBC).

Lim, 46, has been recognized for her research report on the neuroprotective effects of acupuncture by examining whether acupuncture contributed to inhibiting microglial activation and inflammatory events.

``You are to be congratulated. As a noted and eminent professional in the field of science you have now been considered and nominated for recognition by the IBC,'' the IBC said in a letter to Lim. ``Of the many thousands of biographies investigated by the research and editorial departments of the IBC, we believe a select few have made a significant contribution in their field to generate influence on a local, national or international basis.’’

``I expect to do more international research with the honor. This provides me with many opportunities to become a member of world science committees,’’ Lim told The Korea Times.

IBC, based in Cambridge, the United Kingdom, is one of the leading organizations in biographical publishing, similar to the American Biographical Institute. Founded over forty years ago, the IBC has published more than 1 million biographies of people of note from around the world in more than 150 editions of its reference work.
