Meeting Held for Foreign Residents

Five government agencies will hold a large-scale meeting to help foreigners adjust themselves to life here from Nov. 21-23 at the Yangchun-gu Office in Seoul. The meeting will be the first inter-agency consultation session for foreigners.
The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m. and interpretation will be available in English, Chinese, Thai, Mongolian, Japanese, Bangladeshi and Indonesian.
The Ministry of Justice will counsel participants on citizenship and visa extension.
The Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development will offer programs for foreign students and the education of immigrant children.
The Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs will deal with registration for ID cards and welfare.
Participants will have the opportunity to ask the Ministry of Health and Welfare about matters concerning health insurance and free medical service and get advice from the Ministry of Labor on how to deal with wage delays and the use and threat of violence by employers.
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will offer help for Korean families with women who have migrated to marry Korean men.
As of October, the number of foreigners residing in the country totaled 1,070,000. About half of them reside in Seoul and surrounding Gyeonggi Province, according to the Korea Immigration Service.
