At least five people were killed and several others injured Monday in an amusement park accident in Busan, police said.
The accident took place after the Giant Wheel, a Ferris wheel at the World Carnival, malfunctioned, causing one spinning gondola car to collide with another one and throwing riders onto the ground, police officers said.
Four people were killed on the spot and another died while receiving medical treatment in a nearby hospital, they said. The deceased includes a family of four with a 6-year-old boy who came to Busan for their summer vacation, police said.
The World Carnival is "a mobile amusement park" that has about 30 assembled rides and other entertainment facilities. The temporary park opened in Busan last month for a 40-day run after its recent operation in Hong Kong.
