After the long rainy season, a heat wave is expected to hit the nation. The mercury already rose above 30 degrees Celsius Monday, and hotter weather is expected for Tuesday.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said that high atmospheric pressure will sweep over the peninsula. Most of the country will experience the heat wave.

Though the south will get some rain and cloudy skies will blow over in central parts, the weather will stay hot till the end of the week. Residents in southern areas will also have some tropical nights, a spokesman from the weather agency said.

Morning temperatures are expected to hover between 21 to 24 degrees and during the daytime are expected to climb from 29 to 33 degrees.

Strong winds in eastern coastal areas will bring Gangwon Province some rainfalls.
