The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said Monday that it will set up 10 new overseas missions in such places as Belarus and Nicaragua and hire 190 staff for its headquarters as part of its expansion process.

The plan also includes restructuring of the ministry: the policy bureau will be renamed multilateral bureau under which the department of the official development assistance will be created. The Asia-Pacific bureau will be divided into North Asia bureau and South Asia-Pacific Bureau.

To strengthen cultural diplomacy and political and economic coordination in Europe, the ministry will add 26 officials in these areas.

The ministry will also add a new position of deputy director general and 11 working-level officials in consular affairs to deal with increased consular work.

There will also be a new director general in charge of the peace process on the Korean Peninsula.

The ministry will implement the plan once the Cabinet meeting approves it on Tuesday.
