Recent polls are sending off a clear message to the leading presidential contenders of the Grand National Party (GNP) that their aggressive campaign strategies have begun to lose effectiveness.
Experts said, therefore, that former party Chairwoman Park Geun-hye had better seek an alternative card to boost her popularity further.
A Chosun Ilbo poll found former Seoul Mayor Lee Myung-bak's support stood at 39. 4 percent, while Park's marked 27.6 percent.
The poll of 1,000 citizens aged over 19 was conducted on June 30 through a phone interview and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
The latest Dong-A Ilbo poll found the difference in support between the two contenders still remained at 13.9 percentage points.
According to the survey, too-close-to-call races are going on between the two contenders in Gyeongsang and Chungcheong provinces, where support for Lee and Park were 39 percent and 35.5 percent, and 33.4 percent and 33.3 percent, respectively.
Poll results of the remaining provinces, however, showed that the difference between the two contenders' support goes far beyond 10 percent.
